SARA-JANE SKINNER

Sara-Jane has an affinity with the Sea; and is Head of Partnerships at the award-winning marine conservation charity, Blue Marine Foundation (BLUE).

Working to Protect our Ocean – BLUE is a charity based in the UK dedicated to restoring the ocean to health by addressing overfishing, one of the world’s biggest environmental but solvable problems. Their vision is a healthy ocean forever, for everyone.

Brought up close to the chops of the English Channel, SJ used her experience in events management, design and marketing to set up a company in Indonesia helping to support domestic and international brands across the Asia Pacific region. And on returning to the UK, SJ has brought her expertise and her affinity with the sea to BLUE.

BLUE works globally with local fishermen, councils, NGOs, and Governments to designate marine reserves, develop models of sustainable fishing and restore marine habitats so that fishstocks can recover and ecosystems thrive.

A keen cyclist herself, one of SJ’s projects at BLUE includes the organisation of an annual charity cycle ride, London to Monaco, which has run for many years and to-date already raised over £1.5 million for BLUE’s projects around the world.

Some of the areas already benefitting from BLUE’s work include the UK’s Overseas Territories including Pitcairn, Ascension Island and St. Helena, the Caspian Sea, the Maldives, the banning of electric pulse fishing in EU waters and pioneering projects in the Solent and Lyme Bay in the UK.
